Artist’s Statement
Paintings of crows under plastic represent our human relationship to the natural world. All this plastic in the world and it is counter to the ever-changing cycle of life. The crow will decay and go back into the natural world, while the plastic will stay the same for a very long time. Visually interesting to paint, it offers a counter to the dynamic structure to the crow body underneath. The onion painting offers us a chance to look at skins and surfaces. The natural and the manmade. The way that light plays off surfaces is of interest to me as a painter.
