Artist’s Statement
My artwork is all about mark-making. I walk in the footsteps of our ancestors and those before us, and of the great artists that followed the trails on Monhegan to the waters, all in search of the sublime. More recently, I use the soil as part of my art process which is from my brother’s last garden in Mexico, Maine, gathered shortly after he passed away several years ago. There are many traces left behind, and we walk, and sometimes forget, how it really was, and that we should listen to what the land has to say and that we should all be good stewards.
Mark-making, imprints of the ravages of time and tragedies on Earth, walking, art historical references, and satellite imagery all show up in my work in one way or another.
