Artist’s Statement
When I think of wilderness, I ask myself how do we as humans choose to think of it and act in it? First, we take great solace from it, we learn from the wonders of nature. It forces us to reflect on the beginnings of time, when it was just man versus nature. Yet, when we camp and are in nature, we bring what we need to be comfortable. We see and hear the birds, we fear and prepare for the scarier animals that we might encounter. We were all wild at one time. We too have been domesticated not unlike the house and barn animals we now keep. My pieces for the show reflect domestic animals in nature and when housed looking out the window. The desire to be outside is a strong pull for both animals and humans alike.
