A lifelong gardener, I cannot go through a growing season without a garden. It has been part of how I have anticipated and enjoyed the seasons here in Maine for many years. I consider my gardens as markers of seasons and weather, particularly temperature and rainfall. Knowing when it is too early or too wet to plant, early hardy vegetables go in first and then the warmer varieties follow. I enjoy thinking and planning for all these variables. My work is a fresco grid painting, imagining the colors of a vegetable garden broken down into blocks of color as an aerial viewpoint, all to represent a vegetable garden with blocks of color.
