{"id":87,"date":"2012-01-30T18:20:19","date_gmt":"2012-01-30T23:20:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/web.colby.edu\/kabesio\/?page_id=87"},"modified":"2026-01-30T11:25:08","modified_gmt":"2026-01-30T16:25:08","slug":"cn-126-elementary-chinese-ii","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/web.colby.edu\/kabesio\/home\/chinese-125-elementary-chinese-i\/cn-126-elementary-chinese-ii\/","title":{"rendered":"CN 126 (Elementary Chinese II)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This semester we will continue to learn<a href=\"http:\/\/web.colby.edu\/kabesio\/files\/2012\/01\/CastOfCharacters-copy.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-124\" src=\"http:\/\/web.colby.edu\/kabesio\/files\/2012\/01\/CastOfCharacters-copy-300x225.gif\" alt=\"CastOfCharacters copy\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\"><\/a> the basic patterns of Mandarin Chinese.&nbsp; The format of the course will be essentially the same as last semester.&nbsp; We will finish up the last two lessons of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Integrated Chinese<\/span> Level I Part 1 and cover the first six lessons of Level I Part Two.&nbsp; Vocabulary will be introduced in the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">pinyin<\/span> romanization system; we will learn characters in their simplified form.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Course Learning Goals (for lesson-specific communicative goals see the course lesson plans):<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"1\">\n<li>Improve accuracy of pronunciation, and control of tones in sentence-length, and paragraph-length utterances.<\/li>\n<li>Learn to recognize and write an additional approximately 140 characters<\/li>\n<li>Master basic sentence patterns, and become familiar with the concepts of verb aspect and verb complements.&nbsp; Learn ways to connect single sentences as compound sentences, and\/or as paragraph-length utterances.<\/li>\n<li>Be able to employ all four language modalities (speaking, listening, reading and writing) to conduct simple conversations and daily interactions in settings beyond the home and the classroom.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Textbooks:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Integrated Chinese<\/span> Level I Part 1 and Part 2, 3<sup>rd<\/sup> Edition (Textbook, Character Workbook &amp; Workbook) Tao-chung Yao et al (Boston: Cheng and Ts\u2019ui Company, 2009).<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"CN 126 moodle\" href=\"https:\/\/moodle.colby.edu\/course\/view.php?id=5504\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Course Moodle Page<\/a> (This page includes the course schedule and class materials.&nbsp; It is open to enrolled students.&nbsp; E-mail me at kabesio@colby.edu if you would like access.)<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.colby.edu\/lrc\/\">LRC<\/a> Resources<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tapes accompanying &#8220;Integrated Chinese&#8221; Level 1 Part 1 Textbook, &amp; Level 1 Part 1 Workbook (3rd edition) can be accessed through the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.colby.edu\/lrc\/vll\/chinese\/third_edition\/third_index.php\">LRC Virtual Listening Lab <\/a>You may also access the videos that accompany our lessons through the Chinese VLL site.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.colby.edu\/lrc\/help\/mpeg4.php\">Instructions<\/a> on how to configure your computer to download and access MPEG4 files (for the Bihua project among other uses.)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.colby.edu\/lrc\/help\/recording.php\">Instructions<\/a> on how to make sound files and send them.
