Classical Chinese: \u00a0Language, Literature and Culture<\/span><\/h2>\n

In this course we will hone our modern Chinese language (\u73b0\u4ee3\u6c49\u8bed) skills as we learn the basics of Classical Chinese (\u53e4\u4ee3\u6c49\u8bed). Homework and quizzes will ask for English translation; however, instruction will be primarily in modern Chinese, and writing assignments will be in modern Chinese.<\/p>\n

Learning Goals:<\/span> <\/b><\/p>\n

  1. Learn the basic sentence structures of Classical Chinese (\u53e4\u4ee3\u6c49\u8bed.)<\/li>\n
  2. Become familiar with some of the major Classical Chinese particles and their functions within Classical Chinese.<\/li>\n
  3. Learn more about traditional Chinese history, literature, and culture as we read prose \u00a0 excerpts and poems by some of China\u2019s most beloved and influential writers.<\/li>\n
  4. Improve modern Chinese language skills in all four modalities (speaking, listening, reading, writing) through class discussion, homework assignments, and writing essays on classical Chinese literature and culture.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
