{"id":185,"date":"2018-02-23T01:56:52","date_gmt":"2018-02-23T01:56:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/web.colby.edu\/joules2dollars\/?p=185"},"modified":"2018-02-27T02:53:21","modified_gmt":"2018-02-27T02:53:21","slug":"22618-solar-system-advisor-model","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.colby.edu\/joules2dollars\/2018\/02\/23\/22618-solar-system-advisor-model\/","title":{"rendered":"February 26th Lab"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NREL System Advisor Model<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/sam.nrel.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SAM<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>In this lab your will perform a full system and financial analysis of a residential solar installation. \u00a0 \u00a0You will need the following.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1.<\/strong> Location of your home (or the property for which you are doing this analysis) &#8211; GPS coordinates preferred (use Google Earth)<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.<\/strong> Approximate angle of the roof<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.<\/strong> Compass orientation of the roof<\/p>\n<p><strong>4.<\/strong> A <a href=\"http:\/\/web.colby.edu\/joules2dollars\/files\/2018\/02\/ElectricBill0315.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">typical electric bill<\/a> with 12 months of power consumption<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><strong>Before lab<\/strong><\/span> review this <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/_vqw8gvnmLg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tutorial for SAM<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>5.<\/strong> You should also be prepared to estimate the interest rate for any debt financing of the system and an estimate for the annual increase in the price of power.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6.<\/strong> Run the full SAM simulation on your project. Modify the model to test the range of reasonable assumptions for interest rates and electricity pricing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>7.<\/strong> Export the results of each run as a CSV file and import the date into Excel. \u00a0 Define the meaning of each row in the simulation and track the calculations.
