{"id":40,"date":"2016-06-08T10:44:08","date_gmt":"2016-06-08T14:44:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/web.colby.edu\/isrium2017\/?page_id=40"},"modified":"2017-07-12T13:08:27","modified_gmt":"2017-07-12T17:08:27","slug":"speakers","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/web.colby.edu\/isrium2017\/speakers\/","title":{"rendered":"Speakers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/web.colby.edu\/isrium2017\/files\/2017\/03\/ProfDrMullen.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-853\" src=\"http:\/\/web.colby.edu\/isrium2017\/files\/2017\/03\/ProfDrMullen.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"162\" height=\"231\" \/><\/a><strong>Emeritus Prof. Dr. Klaus M\u00fcllen will deliver a Plenary Address to kick-off ISRIUM 2017 in the afternoon on Sunday, June 18th.<\/strong> The title of his talk is <em>&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/web.colby.edu\/isrium2017\/files\/2017\/03\/PlenaryLecture.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Information Technology needs Organic Chemistry: Graphene Nanoribbons as Molecular Semiconductors<\/strong><\/a>&#8220;<\/em> Prof. M\u00fcllen was director at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research. Since the beginning of 2016, he holds an emeritus position for continuation of his research there and is a Fellow of the Gutenberg Research College of Mainz University. His broad research interests range from new polymer-forming reactions, to the chemistry and physics of single molecules as well as graphenes, dendrimers and biosynthetic hybrids. He has published about 1700 papers. He received the Max Planck Forschungspreis; Philip Morris Forschungspreis; Nozoe-Award; Science Award of the \u201cStifterverband\u201d; Innovation Award of the State of North Rhine Westphalia; Nikolaus August Otto Award; Society of Polymer Science Japan International Award; ACS Award in Polymer Chemistry; Tsungming Tu Award, Taiwan; BASF-Award for Organic Electronics; Franco-German Award of the Soci\u00e9te Chimique de France; Adolf-von-Baeyer-Medal; Utz-Hellmuth-Felcht Award, SGL Group; China Nano Award; Carl Friedrich Gau\u00df-Medal, van\u2019t Hoff Award of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences as well as the Hermann-Staudinger Award. From 2008-2009 he served as president of the German Chemical Society (GDCh). In 2013-2014 he was president of the German Association for the Advancement of Science and Medicine. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts &amp; Sciences, North-Rhine-Westphalian Academy for Sciences and Art, National Academy Leopoldina, European Academy of Sciences (EURASC), and Braunschweigische Wissenschaftliche Gesellschaft. In 2010 he received an Advanced ERC Grant for his work on nanographenes.
