{"id":554,"date":"2017-08-13T22:52:51","date_gmt":"2017-08-14T02:52:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/web.colby.edu\/allenisland\/?p=554"},"modified":"2017-08-13T22:55:09","modified_gmt":"2017-08-14T02:55:09","slug":"a-great-day-exploring-herring-gut-and-allen-island","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.colby.edu\/islandcampus\/2017\/08\/13\/a-great-day-exploring-herring-gut-and-allen-island\/","title":{"rendered":"A Great Day Exploring Herring Gut and Allen Island"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-557 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/web.colby.edu\/allenisland\/files\/2017\/08\/Group.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"404\" height=\"272\" srcset=\"https:\/\/web.colby.edu\/islandcampus\/files\/2017\/08\/Group.jpg 640w, https:\/\/web.colby.edu\/islandcampus\/files\/2017\/08\/Group-300x202.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 404px) 100vw, 404px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A visit is worth a thousand words. &nbsp; &nbsp;On August 2, 2017 &nbsp;Whitney King, Mandy Grant, Nicole Denier, Carol Hurney, Justin Becknell, Laura Seay, Stacey Sheriff, Ghana Gherwash, and Kara Kugelmeyer spent the day visiting the Herring Gut Learning Center and Allen Island. &nbsp;The warm summer air over the cool ocean water created a fog bank from Port Clyde to the shores of Allen Island. &nbsp; We had great weather five miles off the <a href=\"http:\/\/web.colby.edu\/allenisland\/files\/2017\/08\/IMG_0352.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-563 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/web.colby.edu\/allenisland\/files\/2017\/08\/IMG_0352.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"230\" height=\"307\" srcset=\"https:\/\/web.colby.edu\/islandcampus\/files\/2017\/08\/IMG_0352.jpg 480w, https:\/\/web.colby.edu\/islandcampus\/files\/2017\/08\/IMG_0352-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 230px) 100vw, 230px\" \/><\/a>coast but were really appreciative of the Archangels radar and an experienced captain on the ride to and from the island in very dense fog.<a href=\"http:\/\/web.colby.edu\/allenisland\/files\/2017\/08\/Group.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a><br \/>\nHighlights of the day were the tour of the island village and the realization that the rustic accommodations at the bunk house are really not that rustic!
