Sue McDougal, Director of International Student Programs, has tirelessly worked for over a decade to help international student with their transition to Colby. Whether it be through sponsoring the International Club on campus, to being a very vocal advocate of the problems international student faced, Sue has been a perfect example of a community builder. She constantly helps students with their financial/immigration statuses, and even makes it out to Food Festivals and extravaganzas. Watch the video above to hear more about Sue and her dedication to the International community on campus!

Key Ideas

\”Place and Space\”

In Maine, there is a signpost with arrows pointing to other famous destinations across the world which happen to have names similar to local cities. (Rome, Paris, China, and Mexico) One year, Sue took students to that signpost and had them each prepare a cutout with their country of origin. They then pasted them onto the signpost to remind students that they belonged just as much as Mainers.

\”Pioneers\”

International student orientation is all about making the strange more familiar. Whether it be through funny videos satirizing American culture, or exploring Maine outdoors, anything is welcome. This photo is taken at the top of Mount Battie found in Camden Maine. The goal of this experience is to allow students the chance to explore outside Colby.
