We are holding a half-day symposium for participants in the research project to share their work and ideas with the community.  We hope this will foster discussion about privilege in the global setting.  In addition to students presenting their work, we have two guest speakers Jane Kenway and Claire Maxwell who have years of experience in the world in global elite education and will share some of their newest work.  <\/p> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n \t <\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t

Jane Kenway<\/strong> is an elected Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences; Australia, Emeritus Professor (Monash University) and Professorial Fellow (Melbourne University), Australia. Her research expertise is in socio-cultural studies of education in the context of wider social and cultural change, focusing particularly on matters of power, politics and inequality. Her newest jointly written book is Class Choreographies: Elite Schools and Globalisation<\/em>. Her most recent jointly edited books are Elite Schools: Multiple Geographies of Privilege and Asia as Method in Education Studies: A defiant research imagination<\/em>. She has also recently jointly edited the International Journal of Qualitative Studies in Education<\/em>, Special Issue: \u2018New directions for research on elites and elite education: Methodological challenges and possibilities\u2019: the British Journal of Sociology of Education<\/em>, Special Issue: \u2018New Sociologies of Elite Schooling: Theoretical, Methodological and Empirical Explorations\u2019: and the Globalisation, Societies and Education<\/em>, Special Issue: \u2018Elite Schools in Globalising Circumstances: New Conceptual Directions and Connections\u2019.<\/p> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n \t <\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t

Claire Maxwell<\/strong> is a Reader in Sociology of Education and Director for Undergraduate Provision at University College London Institute of Education (UK). Her research focus lies at the intersection between education, social class, gender, processes of internationalisation and marketisation, and the formation of elites. Her jointly edited books include Privilege, Agency and Affect <\/em>and Elite Education: International Perspectives<\/em> (both with Peter Aggleton), and Elite Education and Internationalisation: From the Early Years to Higher Education<\/em> (with Ulrike Deppe, Heinz-Hermann Kr\u00fcger, and Werner Helsper).<\/p> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n
