The reefs were very shallow there so it was easy to get up close to the fish and get some great pictures. Our guide speared a Lionfish right in front of us and left it in a bucket on the boat. Lionfish are really beautiful, and I was sad to see this one die.

Stonehole Bay

This morning, we rode back into Hamilton to do some shopping. After that, we visited Stonehole Bay to eat lunch and lounge in the warm sun. I found several gastropod species that I hadn’t seen yet on the rocks in the intertidal zone. We climbed some limestone cliffs and enjoyed the warm sun on our skin, something that we don’t normally get during January at Colby!

After we left the beach, we visited Gibbs Hill Lighthouse, the highest lighthouse on Bermuda. The views from the top were spectacular, but it was so windy in some places that it was hard to stand up!

View from the observation deck of Gibbs Hill Lighthouse.

Yesterday we rode our bikes into Hamilton and explored the streets and shops there.
