So this is the last blog post for our class trip to Bermuda, its kind of weird to be writing it from my house in Boston and not at the BIOS station, but Bruce wanted us to give our final thoughts about the trip as a whole, so here it goes..
I can say without a doubt that this was the best trip I have been on in the past 10 years, or at least since I used to go to the Caribbean with my family when I was younger (but that isn’t really a fair comparison). I learned so much about the natural history of Bermuda, especially all of the environmental and ecological challenges that Bermuda faces now and will continue to struggle with in the future. Part of what made this trip so special, however, was that I learned so much without it ever feeling like a burden or a chore in the way that other classes or trips can begin to feel like after a while. That sentiment is a tribute to Bruce’s amazing ability to combine teaching his students while keeping it a relaxed and fun environment.
I am also really happy with how much we explored Bermuda, we went from end to end on the island and saw pretty much everything there is to see in between. Probably my favorite experience was when we went out to North rock, the weather was absolutely spectacular and so was the snorkeling experience. I guess I loved every boat trip we took, probably because I love boats and everything about them, but also because it was a really cool chance to see Bermuda from a different perspective, and obviously to get an even more intimate experience with the ocean and reefs. I also loved all of our trips to the different beaches, I really can’t say which one was my favorite because they were all awesome in their own way and they were all picture perfect. Our trips into Hamilton were also a lot of fun, I have always had a bias towards the city (probably because I have lived in Boston my entire life) so it was fun to visit Bermuda’s version of a city, not to mention Hamilton itself is a really fun and inviting place. On that note, I can’t go on without mentioning how nice everyone is in Bermuda, maybe its because everyone in the Northeast is in kind of a bad mood now that its winter and cold, but I think its more that people are just genuinely nice in Bermuda.
I could go on and on about how awesome the trip was, but I would just be repeating myself and I hope everyone gets the picture at this point after reading all of our blogs. All I can say is that it was an awesome experience, one I will certainly never forget, and hopefully I will make it back there soon. Thanks to everyone who took the time to read our blogs, we appreciate all of your interest. Until text time.
