quick thoughts on today

Today was both fun and challenging, fun because we rode our mopeds all the way to the end of the island, but challenging to fight through the chilly (and sometimes wet) weather and fatigue…

On our journey towards the dockyard at the far end of Bermuda we stopped at a number of beautiful beaches, including Jobson’s cove and Church Bay, where we took a closer look at the sand that makes up those beaches. We collected lots of samples of the sand, and looked at its content. We found shell fragments, forams, and gastropods among other fragments. I mainly focused on collecting the sand fragments that stood out to me (either because of its color or shape) and I ended up with a pretty sweet collection that at least will serve as a nice reminder of the Bermuda beaches once I get back home to the frozen tundra. After the beaches we eventually made it to the dockyard at the end of the island, it was pretty cool to see Bermuda from a different perspective, but the dockyard itself was pretty empty, mostly because it was a cold and rainy day but also because apparently Bermudians don’t really like to go out much on Sunday’s (although I can’t say thats much different than my Sunday’s back home). On the way back, I stopped in Hamilton in order to break up the long ride (it takes almost an hour to get from one end to the other on the mopeds) and I stopped at Mr. Chicken for a quick snack. Fun fact: the only fast food restaurant on the island is KFC, apparently Mcdonalds has been trying to establish itself on Bermuda for years but to no avail, I think thats great seeing as I can’t seem to escape the golden arches everywhere else I go. That’s about all the highlights from today, we are all pretty exhausted from a long and very entertaining weekend, so hopefully I can catch up on some sleep tonight and be ready for another fun day tomorrow.
