Colby is pleased to announce three faculty positions in the Environmental Sciences:<\/strong><\/em> \u00a0Experimental Physical Chemistry, Terrestrial Ecology, and Marine Geology.<\/em><\/p>\n

These positions are part of a major multi-disciplinary initiative in Environmental Science that includes faculty positions in Biology<\/a>, Chemistry<\/a>, Geology<\/a>, and Environmental Studies<\/a>, investments in field and laboratory-based facilities, and partnerships with the Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences<\/a> and the Maine Lakes Resource Center<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Experimental Physical Chemistry – Department of Chemistry. \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>The Department of Chemistry at Colby College invites applications for a tenure-track, assistant professor position in Experimental Physical Chemistry to begin September 1, 2017. \u00a0We welcome applications from physical chemists with research interests that directly inform our understanding of environmental systems.\u00a0 Experience in geoscience, reaction dynamics, spectroscopy, atmospheric chemistry, photochemistry, the chemistry of interfaces, nonlinear processes or electron transport scopes of research are encouraged. \u00a0(more<\/a>)<\/p>\n

Terrestrial Ecologist \u2013 Environmental Studies Program. \u00a0<\/strong>The Environmental Studies Program at Colby College invites applications for a tenure-track position in Terrestrial Ecology to begin September 1, 2017. The successful candidate will have a specialization in terrestrial ecosystems and an interest in\u00a0including local Maine field\u00a0sites as part of her or his research and teaching programs.\u00a0 We welcome applications from broadly trained ecologists with interdisciplinary backgrounds and expertise in\u00a0ecosystem- to landscape-scale ecology with clear application to solving environmental problems.\u00a0 Experience in carbon cycling, modeling, microbial ecology, restoration ecology or other community-ecosystem-landscape scopes of research encouraged. \u00a0(more<\/a>)<\/p>\n

Assistant Professor, Marine\/Coastal Geology\/Geochemistry.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0The Colby College Department of Geology invites applications for a tenure-track position in marine geology\/geochemistry at the level of Assistant Professor to begin September 1, 2017. This position is part of a cluster hire in support of Colby’s new Environmental Science initiative. Colby requires strong, innovative teaching at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum and an active research program involving undergraduate collaborators. Ideal candidates for this position also will: (1) teach a 200-level, low-temperature-geochemistry or biogeochemistry course in addition to other courses in the Geology Department; (2) present ambitious research plans focusing on the marine\/coastal record of environmental change over 100\u20131,000,000-year timescales; and (3) strengthen collaborations between Colby College and the Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences<\/a> on the coast of Maine (www.bigelow.org). There also are opportunities for collaborations with scientists at Colby and other nearby institutions including the University of Maine Climate Change Institute<\/a>,\u00a0Bowdoin College<\/a>, and\u00a0Bates College<\/a>. A Ph.D. is required at the time of appointment. The search committee is especially interested in candidates with diverse perspectives and backgrounds, and candidates who have a record of success advising and mentoring individuals from groups under-represented in higher education.
