Through collaborations among students, faculty, and community partners, we preserve cultural resources and tell stories in different digital formats.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>What is a Digital Maine project?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Digital Maine projects embrace the possibilities of knowledge production and dissemination that digital tools and techniques allow. This includes scholarly work like the building and curating of digital archives, the construction of multimedia narratives, and the making of interactive maps. Though different in purpose and method, these projects share certain elements and standards in common\u2014standards that we ask new contributors to adhere to. The Digital Maine Team can provide guidance in how to design a successful project and can offer many forms of support as the project develops.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Digital Maine (DM) projects must<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">be about Maine<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">synthesize the practices of the humanities with digital tools and methods<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">involve students in a substantive way<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">have a faculty sponsor.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>DM projects often<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">use resources from Special Collections or the Museum<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">have community partners\/connect the College to the larger community<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">preserve important resources<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">embrace storytelling, in that they shape and deliver student and faculty research to an audience beyond campus boundaries<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">focus on less well-known aspects of Maine\u2019s diverse histories and cultures.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You will find examples of DM projects on the site, at <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/web.colby.edu\/digitalmaine\/projects\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">http:\/\/web.colby.edu\/digitalmaine\/projects\/<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Why do a Digital Maine project?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DM projects enable rewarding collaborations among students, faculty, staff, and those outside the Colby community. The work is interdisciplinary. It increases the visibility of faculty and student scholarship.
