Dear Don-<\/p>\n

It worked out the way you \u2013 and I \u2013 wanted it: Ohio Review<\/span> rejected
\n\u201cBeggars\u201d. Therefore, I am sending it to you for possible publication in
\nHarvard Magazine<\/span>.<\/p>\n

American Studies work is filling up my days \u2013 and my nights \u2013
\nas we near the end of our stay here. What with responsibilities as
\nlecturer, designer of new A.S. courses & programs for other universities,
\nA.S. conference planner and, last-but-not-least, teacher<\/span>, I have
\nlately had no time to breathe, to say nothing of writing. In fact \u201cnot
\nto write\u201d is so similar to \u201cnot to breathe\u201d that I am quite down at
\nthe moment. Fortunately, I will be able to get back to 2 poems in progress
\nthat I have sorely missed this weekend.<\/p>\n

Hopefully, the Parra translation will resume next week \u2013 Maybe
\nI\u2019ll even get a chance to write you a letter for a change.<\/p>\n

For the meantime, Saludos to you & to Jane,<\/p>\n

A note from McNair about this letter:<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>The two poems I refer to in this note are Hair on Television<\/em> and The Bald Spot<\/em>. The first draft of the former poem may be found in the letter I sent to Don on 9\/19\/1979<\/span><\/a>. I completed\u00a0The Bald Spot<\/em>\u00a0during my final days in Chile, showing it to Don on his return to New Hampshire.<\/p>\n
