And I like<br \/>\n(to be clear this time) how the change in stanza<br \/>\nthree has activated the title, offering new meanings<br \/>\nfor machine, death and life. I guess I remain<br \/>\nliteral-minded about metaphor, so that I expect<br \/>\nthat every metaphor have a clear literal meaning,<br \/>\nas well as a figurative one. Why <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The New Yorker<\/span><br \/>\npublished the earlier version of the poem <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">in spite<br \/>\nof<\/span> my expectation is a mystery. I should perhaps<br \/>\nfind here a clue to my own bum luck in trying to<br \/>\npublish<del datetime=\"2013-06-11T18:41:10+00:00\">ing<\/del> there! Anyway, I like the poem&#8211;though<br \/>\nI still do stumble on its last line!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Misc:<\/span> Thanks for using me as your <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">example<\/span>!<br \/>\nAs I think I told you, I am currently an<br \/>\napplicant for another NEA grant, which would,<br \/>\nif it came through, give me more time to<br \/>\nwrite. I expect nothing (mostly). I would<br \/>\nvery much like a copy of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The Alligator Bride<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>2\/<\/p>\n<p>I had one, lent it, and never got it back&#8211;<br \/>\nsince the lendee is now in Alaska, I may<br \/>\nnever see it again, and I miss it!<\/p>\n<p>What would a good time to come and<br \/>\ndiscuss teaching creative writing?
