It<br \/>\nhas been a difficult time. Monday Jane got out of the hospital, where<br \/>\nshe spent a whole week. She is doing better. Complications with various<br \/>\nillnesses, getting adjusted to a new drug\u2026but we are optimistic, and<br \/>\nshe is feeling better.<\/p>\n<p>The poem goes to old Howard today.<\/p>\n<p>Tell me how the Monitor interview went. I thought he was a good<br \/>\ninterviewer.<\/p>\n<p>It has been a difficult spring. Three weeks in Connecticut with<br \/>\nmy mother\u2019s illness. I have been on the road a lot. I went off to<br \/>\nArkansas and Pennsylvania while Jane was in the hospital \u2013 and I did not<br \/>\nwant to go; but Jane clearly wanted me to go <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">very much<\/span>. I burned up the<br \/>\ntelephone wires, I\u2019ll tell you. Sunday night I got back from Pennsylvania,<br \/>\nand drove up and got her in the hospital, and found her better \u2013 as<br \/>\nI had felt she was, talking with her over the phone.<br \/>\n[<em>Written in margin<\/em>: Did you see her poem in the NYer?]<\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t even think of being a poet anymore! Possibly some day\u2026<br \/>\n(Actually I am discouraged. But Iam [sic] terribly frantic, life is<br \/>\nvery hectic, illnesses, being on the road\u2026and trying to finish the<br \/>\nnew edition of Writing Well and A Writer\u2019s Reader.)
