Then, taking my<br \/>\nbooks (along with the elderberry jam) to the<br \/>\nSaturday class at NHC, I sold 15 more.<br \/>\n(The students asked me to bring them.) There are<br \/>\nnow books at Vernondale\u2019s store&#8211;the<br \/>\n\u201cdemonstrater\u201d open to p. 53, about the store,<br \/>\namong other things. And there are books at the<br \/>\nConcord stores&#8211;as well as the K. Bookshelf, of course.<\/p>\n<p>About the job at U\/MO: the time has now<br \/>\npassed for their arranging of interviews. Maybe<br \/>\nthe job never got funded&#8211;there was some<br \/>\nquestion about that. Or maybe I got caught<br \/>\nin the struggle between the Press and the English<br \/>\ndepartment. It\u2019s not a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">serious<\/span> struggle&#8211;but,<br \/>\nas I got it, there is some feeling among<br \/>\ndepartment members that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">they<\/span> should run the Devins<\/p>\n<p>2\/<\/p>\n<p>contest and the Breakthrough series, now handled<br \/>\nby the Press and the poet\/judge chosen for the<br \/>\nparticular year.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">that<\/span> reminds me to tell you not<br \/>\nto be surprised if someone contacts you about<br \/>\nbeing the next judge. They were quite interested<br \/>\nin you when I suggested your name (I hope<br \/>\nyou don\u2019t mind). The fee is $2500. I have<br \/>\none last bit of lobbying to do in a follow-up<br \/>\nletter to Ed King about my story and other<br \/>\nthings.
