Dear Wes,<\/p>\n

Like all poets, you are too modest! We found out in the
\npaper that you are reading Wednesday night, December 6th…
\nWell, you did allude to it, in connection with selling books \u2013
\nbut I didn\u2019t really get it. I will be in Oberlin that night.
\nJane is coming back that day from Boston, having read the night
\nbefore at the Blacksmith… I don\u2019t know whether she will get there
\neither. I am sorry to miss it.<\/p>\n

It was so good to see you here the other day.<\/p>\n

Best as ever, heaven knows, to both of you from both of us,<\/p>\n

P.S. Got your two notes, before this went out…<\/p>\n

Corned beef as thick as pork chops…what a good title!<\/p>\n

You are<\/span> unhappy about Colby-Sawyer…and I think you have
\nevery reason to be…but we do want the place to survive, selfishly
\nI suppose… We also want you to stay around here \u2013 but that is
\npure selfishness! I can manage, with a small and disinterested
\npart of my soul, to wish you a good job elsewhere… You and I
\nare good correspondents anyway, so if you are in Missouri or
\nSan Diego, we will Stay in Touch, like they say…<\/p>\n

We do Look for the Book… I don\u2019t depart until Sunday,
\nDecember 3rd, and I am back Wednesday night December 7th…<\/p>\n

I\u2019m delighted that Jerry wants those three poems! Excellent…
\nIt sure does mean that his interest remains keen! Yes, I think
\nhis list is good also. Jane doesn\u2019t want to try to him, I think,
\nbecause of his connection with me. But I will bring it up…
\nI don\u2019t think she will try there.<\/p>\n

If it were me, I would allow him to italicize the word \u201cbefore\u201d
\nin the title, and then when I saw it in the magazine, I would think
\nabout whether I liked it or not…You can always change it when
\nyou do your book.<\/p>\n

I am going into some italics in the Sewanee Review, with
\na poem, which I think<\/span> I will leave off in the book… At the
\nsuggestion of the editor, whose interest I am pleased to have…
\nBut I have told him that I am skeptical, and that I will probably<\/p>\n

2\/<\/p>\n

go back to Roman when I reprint them in a book… In the meantime,
\nI will have a chance to see what they look like. I don\u2019t understand
\nwhat he is up to. The title gives you a turn. I don\u2019t mean that.
\nI mean it takes you a while to figure out what it means<\/span>, and the
\nitalics will probably make it easier…The question is whether
\nyou want it to be easy or not!<\/p>\n

Copies. I would make sure that copies go to John Frederick
\nNims at Poetry<\/span>, as well as a copy to the magazine Poetry<\/span> for
\ntheir reviewer…and to Peter Davidson at the Atlantic…one copy
\nwill do, but it ought to be addressed to him personally.<\/p>\n

I think that one ought to go to the Argus Champion and
\nanother to the Concord Monitor, with notes drawing newspaper\u2019s
\nattention to your Local Residence…<\/p>\n

I think it is worthwhile to send one to Robert Taylor at
\nthe Boston Globe, with a similar note… Probably nothing will
\nhappen, but why not try?<\/p>\n

Because I am a reviewer, you can get them to send me one \u2013
\nand I will get an extra free copy!<\/p>\n

Make sure that one is sent to Helen Vendler, although it
\nis doubtless not going to do anything. But you might as well
\nenter the lottery!<\/p>\n

Definitely send one to Peter Stitt at Dept. of English\/
\nUniversity of Houston\/Houston, TX…and get Missouri to say
\nthat this is sent with the author\u2019s compliments, at the suggestion
\nof Donald Hall. (If you don\u2019t mind.) Peter will take notice.
\nHe reviews every quarter in the Georgia Review… Otherwise…
\nthey will doubtless send out to all the major review outlets
\nWho else? I cannot think in particular… If I think of more
\nI will tell you when you come over.<\/p>\n
