I have not<br \/>\npublished&#8211;nor have I sought to publish&#8211;any of the poems you named.<br \/>\nI do want to point out, though, that I have received a note<br \/>\nfrom the director of the Wilory Farm poetry contest (the note was in<br \/>\nthe mailbox with your card), explaining that \u201cWhere I Live\u201d has been<br \/>\nchosen for a fifth prize in the contest, and that the poem will be<br \/>\nprinted in a booklet that will be sent out <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">to<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">other<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">contestants<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">only<\/span><br \/>\nand copyrighted in my name.<\/p>\n<p>To clear up any possible doubts, I should tell you a couple of<br \/>\nthings about this. One is that I wrote to the director before submitting<br \/>\nmy poem to ask whether the contest would interfere in any way with the<br \/>\nfuture publication of the poem. The answer was <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">no<\/span>. The other thing I<br \/>\nwant you to know is that I would have written you about the Wilory Farm<br \/>\nplans whether or not you had sent your card. I do not intend to repeat<br \/>\nmy mishap of a year ago.<\/p>\n<p>I do not think there is anything here that would prevent Joey<br \/>\nfrom sending \u201cWhere I Live\u201d out, but I want him to know about the note<br \/>\njust in case he has any misgivings. Please let me know what <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">he<\/span> thinks.<\/p>\n<p>No, \u201cA Dream of Herman\u201d is not finished yet. My Great Sadness and<br \/>\nthe hectic schedule which the New Hampshire College course has caused<br \/>\nhave limited time for revision or new work. I am sending a new version<br \/>\nof \u201cThe Fat People of the Old Days\u201d with this, though. Please replace<br \/>\nthe other version with this one if the poem comes back unpublished<br \/>\nand if you have no doubts about the changes I have made.<\/p>\n<p>No word yet from the Academy of Am. Poets about the Walt Whitman<br \/>\ncontest.
