Dear Don,<\/p>\n

Foiled again. I had thought the \u201cFat\u201d poem was
\nfinished. But you have convinced me that I should wait
\nand try it again later.<\/p>\n

You mentioned that I should probably drop the
\nepigraph. I am troubled by this because the
\nepigraph provides background for the stanza<\/p>\n

Others saw the fat
\nWas their responsibility<\/p>\n

(remember the fat people \u201chad<\/span> to be fat because it was
\ncold\u201d). I can perhaps write about \u201ccold\u201d
\nwithout the epigraph \u2013 or leave cold out entirely \u2013
\nbut I can\u2019t see how to make the above stanza
\nwork without it (the epigraph).<\/p>\n

Maybe I could kill<\/span> the above stanza, but I\u2019d
\nhate to.<\/p>\n

Anyway, I am pleased to have your comments
\non the poem, and I will be sure to read them
\nagain when the time comes to re-revise. If<\/p>\n

anything comes to mind re: the comments I\u2019ve made
\nhere, please let me know.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, I am sending you \u201cCalling
\nHarold<\/span>,\u201d grateful that you liked it and found it
\ncomplete, however small the poem may be. I
\nguess I will just write Peter Davison and tell
\nhim I have passed on his request for poems
\nto the Amaryllis agency, which handles my
\npoems. Does this seem right? Then Joey
\ncan do what he wants to do about it.<\/p>\n

I am also sending \u201cWhen Superman Died.\u201d
\nThanks for clarifying.<\/p>\n

Will you please tell Jane that E.V. Griffith,
\nEditor of Poetry Now<\/span>, is looking for poems
\nfor an anthology called Poets Now<\/span>, \u201can
\nanthology of 80 new poets who seem likely to
\nwin growing recognition in the decade ahead.\u201d
\nThe deadline for submissions is November 30.
\nGriffith\u2019s address is 3118 K Street, Eureka,
\nCalifornia 95501. He\u2019s asking for 10-15
\npoems from each submitting poet.<\/p>\n

3\/<\/p>\n

As you may have guessed, I am interested
\nin submitting poems to Griffith, especially
\nsince he has accepted work of mine in the past,
\nfor both Hearse<\/span> and Poetry Now<\/span>. I have not
\nsubmitted yet, because I\u2019m not sure whether I
\nor Joey should do it. I\u2019ve been thinking of
\nmailing Griffith Going Back Poems<\/span> \u2013 the whole
\nbook \u2013 so he\u2019ll have plenty to choose from.
\nIf Joey feels the submission should be made
\nthrough the agency, I\u2019ll simply send him a copy
\nof the book, complete with envelope and stamps.<\/p>\n
