In 2006, Colby College Special Collections acquired the personal papers of one of New England’s most notable poets, Wesley McNair. The collection is a rich body of materials that documents McNair’s early life as well as his college and professional years, and includes scrapbooks, photographs, family letters, teaching notes and poem drafts, manuscripts, audio-visual materials, and extensive correspondence with colleagues and literary peers.Representing one poet’s daily life and his creative process, the collection is a valuable tool for understanding and teaching the writing of poetry. This website highlights McNair’s writing and revision process by making available scans and transcriptions of a selection of his draft poems (Lovers of the Lost) as well as a portion of his correspondence with the poet Don Hall (Letters Between Poets), a mentor and friend.Find out more about the Wesley McNair Papers @ Colby.
