{"id":30,"date":"2014-03-03T12:42:04","date_gmt":"2014-03-03T17:42:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/web.colby.edu\/csc-labs\/?page_id=30"},"modified":"2025-05-22T11:43:48","modified_gmt":"2025-05-22T15:43:48","slug":"lab-objectives","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/web.colby.edu\/csc-labs\/our-archives-education-program\/lab-objectives\/","title":{"rendered":"Objectives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Our main message to students is:<br>We are here to support their scholarship, research, and curiosity<\/p>\n<p>We are an underutilized resource at Colby that students should take advantage of while they are here<\/p>\n<p>Our resources are available and accessible for them to use &#8211; this is <strong><em>your<\/em><\/strong> archives!<\/p>\n<p>During class visits, we strive to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>demystify the archives by introducing students to who we are, what resources we have, and what we do<\/li>\n<li>orient students to different types of archival materials &amp; formats<\/li>\n<li>incorporate use of primary sources from the archives into class visits &amp; research assignments<\/li>\n<li>provide guidance for analysis of primary sources and close reading of documents<\/li>\n<li>acknowledge different learning styles by using various types of visual, textual, and audio formats in class<\/li>\n<li>encourage students to develop archival research skills &amp; methods by helping them access, use, explore, question, and interpret archival materials<\/li>\n<li>give students a glimpse into the kind of research they may do in the field after their undergraduate studies<\/li>\n<li>suggest that archival research is inherently different than research students may be used to doing online or in the library<\/li>\n<li>support innovative pedagogical approaches, classes, and research projects<\/li>\n<li>invoke curiosity, wonder, frustration, connections&#8230;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<!--themify_builder_content-->\n<div id=\"themify_builder_content-30\" data-postid=\"30\" class=\"themify_builder_content themify_builder_content-30 themify_builder tf_clear\">\n    <\/div>\n<!--\/themify_builder_content-->\n\n\n<p><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our main message to students is:We are here to support their scholarship, research, and curiosity We are an underutilized resource at Colby that students should take advantage of while they are here Our resources are available and accessible for them to use &#8211; this is your archives!
