\nand Washington probably cut
\noff. Last evening trains were
\nturned back from Fairfax C.H.
\nby the enemy\u2019s guns, probably
\nplaced in the road to Vienna
\nso as to command Little River
\nTurnpike running through the
\ntown.
\nA<\/span> council of war was
\nheld and Pope determined to fight
\nthe enemy, if we move against
\nthe foe posted in our seat we
\nshall have to fight them on
\nground such as they may
\nchoose to select for us. Whereas
\nhad we moved toward the
\nCapitol thirty six hours ago<\/p>\n

\nMany<\/span> think our cause
\nis lost. But I am still
\nhopeful. Two of the large
\nparty of civilians from
\nWashington to attend to the

\nof Biddeford Journal. They
\nhave just gone out with
\nflag of truce to the battle
\nfield to see to wounded and
\ndead.
\nMr.<\/span> Cornwell of the Register\u2019s
\noffice at Treasury Department is
\nhere with us and is making himself
\ngenerally useful in obtaining stuffs
\nfrom the Sanitary commission.
\nThe<\/span> day is most beautiful.
