Hunting about<br \/>\nfor the General I at last found him<br \/>\nsleeping soundly on the side of a<br \/>\nbank. I was soon up and<br \/>\nfor a miracle found my horse and<br \/>\nsaddled him.<br \/>\n<span style=\"margin-left: 28px;\">Got<\/span> into head quarters just<br \/>\nas they had finished the discussion.<br \/>\nThe end of it was that \u201cwe were all<br \/>\nup\u201d, \u201cno escape for the Army of the<br \/>\nPotomac -\u201d I was thunderstruck and<br \/>\nyet forced to accept it as true<br \/>\ncoming from such a high source.<br \/>\nWent to valise and destroyed some<br \/>\nprivate letters and put my diary in<br \/>\nmy pocket.<br \/>\n<span style=\"margin-left: 28px;\">Marched<\/span> all night and<br \/>\nreached the Landing about dawn,<br \/>\nbegan to rain, went to the maw<\/p>\n<div style=\"height: 10px;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p>Page 179:<\/p>\n<div style=\"height: 10px;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p>of a large barn where I got both<br \/>\nshelter and sleep.<br \/>\n<span style=\"margin-left: 28px;\">Toward<\/span> noon had something<br \/>\nto eat at Col.
