\nspot somewhere in the woods on

\nand country people report us distant
\nabout seven miles from Richmond.
\nWe reached here two days since after
\na most tedious march. We sent out
\na reconnoitering [sic] party yesterday and
\nobtained most important information
\nconcerning the enemy, and their probable<\/p>\n

force on the other side of the Chickahominy.
\nThere are various opinions held, some thinking
\nthe enemy to be in large numbers, and some
\nnot.
\nBut<\/span> the natural question is constantly
\nbeing asked, where are the enemy? It is
\ncertainly surprising that we are permitted
\nto approach so near to Richmond unmolested.
\nIf the enemy intend to defend the line
\nof the Chickahominy why have two whole
\ncorps of the army been allowed to cross
\nat Bottom\u2019s Bridge? There must be at
\nleast 50,000 of our troops on the other side of the Chickahominy today.
\nTwo<\/span> days since and we were
\nmuch disturbed about our right, fearing
\nlest the enemy should attack us in
\nthat quarter and from the rear. But
\nCapt. Arnold says we are all right now.
\nFranklin and Porter have their corps
\nin position and in his language
