\nYesterday<\/span> afternoon I set out
\nfor Washington on business – and
\nreturned this evening.
\nOn<\/span> the way I fell in with
\nCapt. Hennesy of Patterson N. Jersey,
\nand found that he was a brother
\nChristian – and that his pastor was
\nDr. Babcock who used to preach to
\nus in the William St. Baptist
\nChurch. New Bedford, and who was
\nafterward President of Waterville
\nCollege. I had a very pleasant
\nconversation with him indeed
\nand on the strength of those
\nmutual acquaintance [Carrot<\/em>:with] and esteem
\nfor Dr. Babcock we have resolved
\nto correspond. He goes home on
\na furlough.

\nLast<\/span> night I stopped at the
\ncentral house and went to bed
\nwith the Gas burning; woke up
\nthis morning and put it out.
\nCalled on Major Rochester and
\nhe paid me my month\u2019s salary
\nto April 1, 1862.
\nCalled<\/span> at Brady\u2019s and had
\nthe negative taken of myself for College
\nAlbum pictures, 40 costing me $16.00.
\nCould not take my vignette because
\nit was too dark.
\nRode<\/span> out to the Maine Cavalry
\nand saw Capt. Cowan who did not
\nknow me.
\nReturned<\/span> home by the boat
\ntoward the latter part of the afternoon.
\nPurchased a horrid dish of oysters
\nfor dinner.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n
