\nHad<\/span> a grand review today
\nof King and Franklin\u2019s divisions
\nof the first corps d\u2019armee. Our
\ndivision carried off the paler. [?]
\nThe 2nd Brigade (our\u2019s) was the
\nbest and the old Maine 5th,
\n\u201cthe renowned of the world\u201d was
\nacknowledged by every one [sic] present
\nto be the finest appearing and best
\nmarching regiment on the field.
\nLord Lyons and suite were
\npresent and witnessed the review.
\nMany other distinguished foreigners
\nattended them.
\nMcClellan<\/span> did not review
\nbut with a portion of his staff
\nhe rode behind. As he passed
\nby our brigade the men began
\nto cheer and each regiment
\ntook it up one after another. \u201cGeordie\u201d
\nlooked exceedingly pleased.<\/p>\n

I<\/span> did a very ungallant thing
\nby \u201ccharging on a column\u201d of ladies.
\nBut it was a great mistake.
\nAfter<\/span> the review we all rode to
\nAlexandria and did not return
\nuntil about seven. Immediately
\ntook tea and then went up
\nto the concert at Genl. Newton\u2019s.
\nA great time. Shall always
\nremember it. Waldron [?] is a queer
\nfellow. Cupid in his roundabout
\ndeclining the proffered stool it
\nwas graciously occupied by the
\ngallant Purdy Miss Dean and
\nMiss Ohehoe [?], and several gentlemen
\nfurnished the singing and altogether
\nthe entertainment was very
\nacceptable. Shall I ever forget
\nthat inimitable rendering of
\n\u201cOld Grimes\u201d?<\/p>\n

“Old<\/span> Grimes is dead, that good old man
\nWhene’er<\/span> shall see him more
\nHe<\/span> used to wear an old gray coat

The finance committee reported
\nthe collection of $27.25 which
\namount was duly handed to
\nthe ladies.
\nThe<\/span> music was \u201corrid\u201d and
\nyet quite acceptable for one who
\nhad heard nothing of the sort
\nbefore for nine months.<\/p>\n
