Get up and<br \/>\ngo to Major\u2019s tent. He says that<br \/>\norders are to move this morning<br \/>\n\u201cat 9 o\u2019clock, with two days rations<br \/>\nin our haversacks.\u201d<br \/>\n<span style=\"margin-left: 28px;\">Gen<\/span> Slocum was at our<br \/>\ndress Parade yesterday and he<br \/>\nalso visited the other regiments.<br \/>\nI saw him with his staff looking<br \/>\nat the 27th N.Y. as they drilled.<br \/>\nWhere are we going? Col. Geary\u2019s<br \/>\nsuccess at Leesburg is significant<br \/>\nin this connection. Either to join<br \/>\nhim at that place by rail or<br \/>\nget in between the enemy and<br \/>\nManassas on that side.<br \/>\n<span style=\"margin-left: 28px;\">Have<\/span> been writing letters<br \/>\nto L. and bro. Charles.<\/p>\n<div style=\"height: 10px;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p>Page 52:<\/p>\n<div style=\"height: 10px;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p>Lieut. B. got off a fine thing.<br \/>\nExcited and earnest he jumps<br \/>\nup and rapidly dresses himself.<br \/>\n\u201cNow,\u201d says he, \u201clet us see, where shall<br \/>\nI go to find out whether we are going<br \/>\nto move or not.\u201d Rushes out the tent<br \/>\nand pretty soon I hear him waking<br \/>\nthe Captain. \u201cCaptain, Captain, why<br \/>\nain\u2019t you [<em>Carrot<\/em>: get] up? Going to move<br \/>\nat 7 o\u2019clock this morning.\u201d Pretty<br \/>\nsoon Geo is back again. \u201cNow,\u201d<br \/>\nsays he, \u201cWhere shall I go to find<br \/>\nout.\u201d? I laugh heartily at him,<br \/>\nand off he goes.<\/p>\n<div style=\"height: 10px;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p>10ok a.m.<br \/>\n<span style=\"margin-left: 28px;\">The<\/span> column has halted<br \/>\nfor a rest on the Little River turnpike<br \/>\nout regiment being ahead. Genl. Slocum<br \/>\nis here with us and the men all<br \/>\nfeel splendidly.<\/p>\n<div style=\"height: 10px;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p>Page 53:<\/p>\n<div style=\"height: 10px;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"margin-left: 28px;\">It<\/span> began to rain about five this<br \/>\nmorning + continued up to within half<br \/>\nan hour. This has given us<br \/>\na pretty good soaking but<br \/>\nour spirits remain good.<br \/>\n<span style=\"margin-left: 28px;\">The<\/span> men are all provided<br \/>\nwith light tents which they<br \/>\ncarry in their packs. This makes<br \/>\nthem heavily loaded. I carry<br \/>\nbeside my sword a haversack<br \/>\na woolen and rubber blanket<br \/>\nand my overcoat.
