C.<br \/>\n<span style=\"margin-left: 28px;\">Brother<\/span> Charles also went to<br \/>\nAlexandria this morning on the<br \/>\nway to Maine. He will stop in<br \/>\nWashington a few days. Tomorrow<br \/>\nI hope to receive a pass and<br \/>\njoin him there. We shall try to<br \/>\nattend the President\u2019s Levee<br \/>\ntogether if possible.<br \/>\n<span style=\"margin-left: 28px;\">The<\/span> \u201cPhiladelphia Inquirer\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cof today\u201d brings us vague intelligence<br \/>\nof the capture of Fort Donelson.<br \/>\nIt must fall. But there will be<br \/>\na dreadful loss of life.<br \/>\n<span style=\"margin-left: 28px;\">We<\/span> await anxiously further<br \/>\nnews relative to western movements.<\/p>\n<div style=\"height: 10px;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p>Page 33:<\/p>\n<div style=\"height: 10px;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p>This forenoon it is raining hard.<br \/>\nI have cutting extracts from<br \/>\npapers to put in my \u201cPatent Scrap<br \/>\nbook\u201d. Am going to read a little<br \/>\nthis forenoon and write. Many letters<br \/>\nyet remain unanswered and I<br \/>\nmust attend to them at once.<br \/>\nI don\u2019t think it could very well<br \/>\nhave been helped. Naturally I take<br \/>\ngreat delight in correspondence. The<br \/>\nfact is I have been so situated<br \/>\nthat letter writing during the past<br \/>\nfortnight has been a thing almost<br \/>\nwholly impracticable.
