Paul<br \/>\nCommanding.<\/p>\n<div style=\"height: 10px;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"margin-left: 58px;\">19th.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"margin-left: 28px;\">Reached<\/span> Edinburg today<br \/>\nwhere the Head Quarters of the 2nd.<br \/>\nBrig. with the 41st. regt USCT and eight<br \/>\n(8) companies of the 45th. rgt. USCT<\/p>\n<div style=\"height: 10px;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p>Page 45:<\/p>\n<div style=\"height: 10px;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p>were left as garrison.<br \/>\n<span style=\"margin-left: 28px;\">July<\/span> 20th encamped on<br \/>\nRanche Tabasco. Had a novel<br \/>\ntime chatting with the Senoritas<br \/>\nthey in Spanish + I giving them<br \/>\nSuch words to pronounce as \u201cMississippi.\u201d<\/p>\n<div style=\"height: 10px;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"margin-left: 58px;\">21st.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"margin-left: 28px;\">Reached<\/span> Las Cuevas Rock today.<br \/>\n+ stationed there as garrison one<br \/>\n(1) company of the 45th regt. USCT.<br \/>\nCapt. E. F. Brown. Comdg.<\/p>\n<div style=\"height: 10px;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"margin-left: 58px;\">22nd<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"margin-left: 28px;\">Arrived<\/span> at Ringgold Barracks,<br \/>\nwhere are now stationed as the<br \/>\nGarrison, Head Quarters of the Division<br \/>\nwith the 8th regt. USCT + the 29th regt<br \/>\nUSCT.<\/p>\n<div style=\"height: 10px;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"margin-left: 58px;\">24th.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"margin-left: 28px;\">Today<\/span> the Head Quarters of the 3rd.<br \/>\nBrig. with the 31st. USCT and the 116th<\/p>\n<div style=\"height: 10px;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p>Page 46:<\/p>\n<div style=\"height: 10px;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p>USCT were moved to home and now<br \/>\nform the garrison of that place.<br \/>\n<span style=\"margin-left: 28px;\">The<\/span> distance marched (approximation)<br \/>\nfrom Brazos Santiago to Ringgold Barracks<br \/>\none hundred + fifty (150) miles; from<br \/>\nRinggold Barracks to Rome fifteen (15)<br \/>\nmiles:- total one hundred + sixty five<br \/>\n165 miles.<\/p>\n<div style=\"height: 10px;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"margin-left: 58px;\">August<\/span> 9th<\/p>\n<div style=\"height: 10px;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"margin-left: 28px;\">I<\/span> have got quite out of the habit<br \/>\nof this diary business.<br \/>\n<span style=\"margin-left: 28px;\">Is<\/span> it worth while [sic] to preserve<br \/>\none\u2019s thoughts on paper? Some of<br \/>\nthem, possibly.<br \/>\n<span style=\"margin-left: 28px;\">If<\/span> a war should be waged<br \/>\nin Mexico what a demand there<br \/>\nwould be for ice?<br \/>\n<span style=\"margin-left: 28px;\">It<\/span> is worth while [sic] to study<br \/>\nwars financially\u2014to find out what<\/p>\n<div style=\"height: 10px;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p>Page 47:<\/p>\n<div style=\"height: 10px;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p>productions were in demand, how high<br \/>\nthe prices for each rise\u2014at what<br \/>\nstage of the war they began to<br \/>\nfall\u2014how long after the wars<br \/>\ngold remained up\u2014 + in others<br \/>\nwords to analyze wars with sole<br \/>\nreference to trade, + compare the<br \/>\nanalyses. If there is not an<br \/>\nagreement it should be traceable<br \/>\nto plain causes such as a difference<br \/>\nin climates of the theatres of war +<br \/>\nconsequently [<em>carrot<\/em>: a difference] in requirements of the<br \/>\ntroops, and the duration of the war may<br \/>\npossibly be a cause, or its intensity,<br \/>\nor the difference as regards parties involved,<br \/>\nin respect of means + importance.<br \/>\n<span style=\"margin-left: 58px;\">* * *<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"margin-left: 28px;\">Major<\/span> Glazier is here, having<br \/>\njoined the staff.<\/p>\n<div style=\"height: 10px;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p>Page 48:<\/p>\n<div style=\"height: 10px;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p>Our mess is getting to be an<br \/>\ninstitution.
