A<\/span> day of wonderful excitements.
\nThis forenoon commenced fishing
\nfor sharks and while we were
\nof dinner there was a bite.
\nThe officers rush on deck +
\nthere sporting about our stem
\nentangled in the line was
\na fearfully large animal. Commence
\npulling in. Proves to be a
\ntiger shark, ten feet long +
\nweighing about 500 pounds.
\nNot being experienced we try
\nto bring him to the deck but
\nhis weight straightens the hook
\nand carries away the barb.
\nThus we lose a monster.
\nThis<\/span> afternoon two negroes
\nfight and one bites off the
\nother\u2019s ear. The disfigured individ [sic]
\nleers joyfully in the face of<\/p>\n

After waiting 3 days for
\na calm that every pilot
\nand every sailor told us

\nthis coast, the sublime spirit
\nof energy has gone to work
\ntoday, the roughest day if
\nthe three, and now we are<\/p>\n
