W.<br \/>\nmy brother aide comes rushing in<br \/>\nwith the exclamation: \u201cYorktown has<br \/>\nbeen evacuated and our division<br \/>\nreembarks [sic] at once.\u201d<\/p>\n<div style=\"height: 10px;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"margin-left: 58px;\">5,,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"margin-left: 28px;\">All<\/span> was hurry and<br \/>\nconfusion throughout all of yesterday<br \/>\nAt night we ran out into the<br \/>\nbay and this morning early we<br \/>\nsailed for Yorktown. Before sitting<br \/>\ndown to breakfast we were anchored<br \/>\nbeneath the frowning but deserted<br \/>\nbatteries of the rebels on the one<br \/>\nside Gloucester, on the other Yorktown.<br \/>\n<span style=\"margin-left: 28px;\">The<\/span> severe storm could<br \/>\nnot prevent us from desiring to<\/p>\n<div style=\"height: 10px;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p>Page 119:<\/p>\n<div style=\"height: 10px;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p>visit these celebrated fortifications,<br \/>\nand many did so. I went in<br \/>\ncompany with Col. Jackson Heath.<br \/>\nThe enemy seem to have left in a<br \/>\ngreat hurry abandoning immense<br \/>\nquantities of ordnance stores. We<br \/>\nhad to move around very carefully<br \/>\nto avoid the Torpedoes. Col. Jackson<br \/>\nstepped about very lightly.
