Wead who surprised<br \/>\nme by saying that orders had come<br \/>\nfor us to march and that the<br \/>\ndestination of our Army corps had<br \/>\nbeen changed. I was soon in<br \/>\nthe office and at work writing<br \/>\norders. An hour afterward I turned<br \/>\nin again and was soon asleep.<br \/>\nAt seven I got up.<br \/>\n<span style=\"margin-left: 28px;\">At<\/span> ten o\u2019clock the brigade<br \/>\nwas formed. I sent home a basket<br \/>\nof clothing by express, and in my<br \/>\ncarpet bag I put all that I am<br \/>\nto carry except what will be on<br \/>\nmy person, my blankets, and<br \/>\novercoat. At eleven we were on<br \/>\nthe march for Alexandria there<br \/>\nto take the cars. It took a long<br \/>\ntime. But we got hungry soon,<br \/>\nand it was decided to pay Mrs.<br \/>\nCatt\u2019s a visit. Accordingly we<br \/>\nwalked over to that venerable<br \/>\nplace and took dinner. A little<br \/>\nwhile after General Franklin with<br \/>\none of his staff arrived and we<br \/>\nall took dinner together.
