In Fort Burnham this afternoon<br \/>\nwith Sedgwick + Perkins + others. Enemy<br \/>\nin crowds on the parapet of Gilmer<br \/>\nlooking at us. Some said they would<br \/>\nclear out tonight. I didn\u2019t think so.<br \/>\n<span style=\"margin-left: 28px;\">We<\/span> are all ready for anything.<br \/>\nI feel as though the final struggle has<br \/>\ncommenced.<\/p>\n<p>We get good news from the<br \/>\nPetersburg front, our people<br \/>\nhave broken the enemies [sic]<br \/>\nlines in several places.<br \/>\n<span style=\"margin-left: 28px;\">They<\/span> cannot possibly<br \/>\nhold so long a front, +<br \/>\nthey cannot afford, I think,<br \/>\nto make their great fight<br \/>\nwith a river, yes, two<br \/>\nrivers, behind them.<br \/>\n<span style=\"margin-left: 28px;\">Tomorrow<\/span> will be an<br \/>\neventful day.
