(In haste) M.L.C.]<\/p>\n<p>Waterville, Oct. 16. \/90.<\/p>\n<p>Dear Miss Coburn,<br \/>\nI feel very grateful to<br \/>\nyou for your generosity in helping us out<br \/>\nof our dilemma. I sent you 12 copies of the<br \/>\nprotest and will send six more tom.<br \/>\nif I have no other disposal to make<br \/>\nof them \u201cfor the good of the cause\u201d. That<br \/>\nwill leave 20 cts. to pay the postage to<br \/>\nyou. Will that be satisfactory?<\/p>\n<p>I have sent one to A.P. Marble of Wor-<br \/>\ncester, Mass, one to Prof. Butler of North-<br \/>\nwestern Univ., one to Mr. Seward our min-<br \/>\ninster, one to Dr. Howard of my class. Mr. C.<br \/>\nsent one to Gov. Burleigh. Gen. Butler. Gen.<br \/>\nH.M. Plaisted and Mr. Briggs. Miss Par-<br \/>\nmenter and Miss Sawtelle will, I think,<\/p>\n<p>mail them to class-mates or to personal<br \/>\nfriends. There is a Mrs. Barrons on the School<br \/>\nBoard of Boston to whom Mr. Seward wishes<br \/>\na copy sent. Mr. Lane has one, Prof. Hall<br \/>\nshowed it to Dr. Spencer and family.<\/p>\n<p>So I think you will not be likely to<br \/>\nduplicate our names if you send to any<br \/>\nother than these I have mentioned.<\/p>\n<p>The latest development is that Dr. Small<br \/>\nhas appealed to the Freshman class to help<br \/>\nhim carry out his new scheme. What do<br \/>\nyou think of that. Looks rather <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Small<\/span>,<br \/>\ndoesn\u2019t it? Oh! dear dear! It is so hard<br \/>\nfor me to keep still and let this thing go<br \/>\non, but I suppose it is the only way now.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Prof. Foster spoke with me the other<br \/>\nday, expressing her sympathy with the protest<br \/>\n\u201cYou have left your record behind you,\u201d she<br \/>\nsays. \u201cThat can\u2019t be changed or altered. \u201cCo-<br \/>\neducation will go on in other places.\u201d Let me<br \/>\nhear from you occasionally.
