Winslow was born on March 7, 1862 in Fairfield, Maine to Isaac and Sarah Winslow. Her family moved to St. Albans and then Winthrop, and she was educated at the Friends Boarding School in Providence, Rhode Island (now Moses Brown School) before attending Colby (University). She attended Colby from 1881-1882, took an interim period from Colby at the Rhode Island State Normal School from 1882-2883, and then re-entered in 1884, graduating with the class of 1886. During her time at Colby, she was in the Alpha Chapter of the Sigma Kappa Sorority and active in their work with the Maine Seacoast Mission, and she won Phi Beta Kappa distinction for her academic achievement. Immediately upon graduating, she became a teacher at the Coburn Classical Institute in Waterville, where she remained until 1889, when she attended the American School of Archaeology in Rome from 1889-1900. Winslow then took up a teaching position in the Girls\u2019 High School in Brooklyn, New York until 1929, and was quickly joined by her classmate Bessie White \u201986. She later retired to Portland, Maine.<\/p>\n<p>Winslow was a member of the American Philological Association, and received an honorary master\u2019s degree from Colby in 1889.
