March
30 Sunday
Camp Franklin.
Rainy day and so very
uncomfortable. Chaplain Adamo has
been to tell me that there will be a
communion service at the 16th N.Y.
this afternoon and invites me. Shall
I attend? I have not sat at the
table of the Lord since the few days
previous to my “leaving for the wars.”
I should be overjoyed to attend the
Service with the church. But
Thosefit to sit at the table
are only those who have believed
and been baptized
Have these fulfilled the requirement
Dutch Reformed, Presbyterian, Free
Will Baptists, Orthodox +e.

I shall not attend the service.

I can attend no service today; so I am
spending the time in thought on the past – what
I have done – what left undone – in what
points I fail – where I may improve – and
so be of the greatest possible service to
my country and the world.
One thing sure I may ever rely
upon and that is this. I must have
strength that comes from on high.
Or else I shall utterly fail.
