Her first poem, &#8220;Land-locked,&#8221; was published in 1860, and was an immediate success. She enjoyed visits from prominent artists, literary figures, and musicians at her family\u2019s resort on Appledore Island, and was published in <em>Harper\u2019s<\/em>, <em>Scribner\u2019s<\/em>, and the<em> Atlantic<\/em>. She is best known today for<strong><em> An Island Garden <\/em><\/strong>and <strong><em>Among the Isles of Shoals<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/digitalcommons.colby.edu\/cq\/vol6\/iss12\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">December 1964<\/a> issue of the <em>Colby Library Quarterly<\/em> features articles on Celia Thaxter&#8217;s life and work.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300\"><em>COLLECTION DETAILS<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>We have letters, poems, prose fragments, an unfinished novel, scrapbooks, and first appearances in print.
