Edward F Stevens &#8217;89 (far right) played a central role in hiring the college&#8217;s librarians. He donated fine press items to the Treasure Room, contributed articles to the CLQ and served on the advisory board of the CLA.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Official and informal ambassadors of the college facilitated donations for the Treasure Room from its earliest days and utilized the collections to further their own programs. <a title=\"Franklin Winslow Johnson (President 1929-1942)\" href=\"http:\/\/web.colby.edu\/csc-history-of\/the-people\/other-colby-people\/f-w-johnson\/\" target=\"_blank\">President Johnson<\/a> leveraged the Thomas Hardy and Edwin Arlington Robinson collections to reinforce Colby&#8217;s prestige and its new Mayflower Hill campus. <a title=\"Ernest Cummings Marriner \u201913\" href=\"http:\/\/web.colby.edu\/csc-history-of\/the-people\/other-colby-people\/e-c-marriner\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ernest Marriner<\/a> was an early college contact for James Augustine Healy, who would become a major benefactor. <a title=\"Frederick A Pottle \u201917\" href=\"http:\/\/web.colby.edu\/csc-history-of\/the-people\/other-colby-people\/f-a-pottle\/\" target=\"_blank\">Fred Pottle &#8217;17<\/a> of Yale University spearheaded the formidable and significant Colby Library Associates.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to their front-line and behind-the-scenes advocacy, many individuals other than curators and librarians were regular donors to the Treasure Room, members of the <a title=\"The Colby Library Associates\" href=\"http:\/\/web.colby.edu\/csc-history-of\/the-people\/cla\/\" target=\"_blank\">Colby Library Associates <\/a>and contributors to the <a title=\"\u201cA Recent Accession\u201d: The Colby Library Quarterly\" href=\"http:\/\/web.colby.edu\/csc-history-of\/highlighted-collections\/clq\/\" target=\"_blank\">Colby Library Quarterly<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Official and informal ambassadors of the college facilitated donations for the Treasure Room from its earliest days and utilized the collections to further their own programs.
