That is because the West looks at the coronavirus through a materialist perspective only!!

For in their view it is a result of complicated environmental factors for which they do not find a realistic explanation. And according to this view, the barring of any gatherings is a beneficial solution because it cuts off the sole cause in their view!

As for the Muslims’ view, the virus is a material cause that has resulted from Shari’i truths and it is a verse of the Lord of the Worlds by which God terrifies His servants…and in our view: “He has not brought down a tribulation except through sin” and “corruption and tribulation” appear for the frequency of impudence and supremacy of obscenities and lack of reformers and the distance from the Lord of the Worlds.

So in our religion, when He brought down the tribulation, the pleasure of our eyes (SAWS) turned to prayer!!

So how can we in the intensity of the crisis close the houses of God, the places of prayer!!?

And in our religion, when the Sun or Moon is eclipsed, we call prayer as congregation!

And in our religion, when rain becomes barren, we say: ‘Come to prayer’!!

And in our religion, when the enemy gains supremacy, we are submissive in prayer!!

And in our religion, the solution for every problem: prayer, then prayer, then prayer.

So are we to close the houses of God in a crisis that threatens humanity like this one!!?

In conclusion: we do not assert neglect of the function of the cause. For whoso eats garlic or onion is to keep away from the mosque and likewise we say about all who show in themselves suspicions of any symptom: they are to be kept away. As for closing the houses of God in the lands of the Muslims in the time of the tribulation in which we are in urgent need to bend the neck before the Generous Pardon [God]: no and 1000 nos.

And if necessary, a middle solution should be reached in that the number should be reduced or some of them should be closed besides others or those who frequent them must be obliged to take up precautions like wearing the muzzle and gloves and the like and other necessary measures.

For many of the governmental offices will not be closed but rather the necessary measures will be intensified in them.

And likewise let there be in the mosques, especially as the people of the mosques generally perform an important part of the measures of protection in the devotion of worship like washing the hands and exterior limbs in ablution, and God knows best.

Written by Abdullah bin Muhammad al-Muheisseni
Date: 22 Rajab 1441 AH corresponding to 17 March 2020 CE

[Arabic original; translated by Aymenn Jawad al-Tamimi] My opinion on closing the mosques on Fridays and the congregations in the Islamic lands because of corona!
