SAT,<br \/>\nand you may wonder<br \/>\nwhy I&#8217;ve brought you here,<br \/>\ntoo. It&#8217;s not SAT,<br \/>\nand apart from summer, the big<br \/>\nevent in town&#8217;s the bog<br \/>\nwater staggering down the falls.<br \/>\nWould it matter if I told you<br \/>\npeople live here &#8211; the old<br \/>\nman from the coast who built<br \/>\nthe lobster shack<br \/>\nin a hayfield;<br \/>\nthe couple with the sign<br \/>\nthat says Cosmetics<br \/>\nand Landfill; the woman<br \/>\nso shy about her enlarged leg<br \/>\nshe hangs her clothes<br \/>\noutdoors at night? Walk down this road<br \/>\nawhile. What you see here in daytime &#8211;<br \/>\na kind of darkness that comes<br \/>\nfrom too much light &#8211;<br \/>\nyou&#8217;ll need to adjust<br \/>\nyour eyes for. The outsized<br \/>\nhominess of that TV dish,<br \/>\nfor instance, leaning<br \/>\nagainst its cupboard<br \/>\nof clapboard.
