This newspaper was chosen because of its reputation and its credibility of a legitimate news source globally. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/imgres?q=NY+TImes+logo&amp;um=1&amp;hl=en&amp;client=safari&amp;sa=N&amp;rls=en&amp;biw=1208&amp;bih=596&amp;tbm=isch&amp;tbnid=j-oRU3HckdN_tM:&amp;imgrefurl=http:\/\/cs.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Soubor:The_New_York_Times_logo.png&amp;docid=eU3-SU3PaQeizM&amp;imgurl=http:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/7\/77\/The_New_York_Times_logo.png&amp;w=1080&amp;h=159&amp;ei=NeenT4OgEIjo0QGfhOC1BQ&amp;zoom=1&amp;iact=rc&amp;dur=412&amp;sig=100854619991121403943&amp;page=1&amp;tbnh=22&amp;tbnw=151&amp;start=0&amp;ndsp=21&amp;ved=1t:429,r:4,s:0,i:148&amp;tx=78&amp;ty=5\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-3208\" src=\"http:\/\/web.colby.edu\/contemporary-issues\/files\/2012\/04\/The_New_York_Times_logo.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"299\" height=\"44\" \/><\/a>\u00a0Moreover, students at Colby College can read The <em>New York Times <\/em>free of charge as part of the <a href=\"http:\/\/web.colby.edu\/sga\/programs\/newspaper-program\/\" target=\"_blank\">Student Newspaper Program<\/a>. \u00a0Therefore, we felt it was important to examine how The <em>New York Times<\/em> covered the cholera outbreak because of its strong student readership at Colby.<\/p>\n<p>Overall,\u00a0The<em>\u00a0New York Times<\/em>\u00a0reported on the outbreak more frequently than\u00a0<em>USA Today<\/em>. \u00a0In addition to following the spread and cause of cholera, the articles explained key players who were supplying aid to Haiti, such as the World Health Organization, Operation Blessing International, Pan American Health Organization, and World Vision.<\/p>\n<p><em>The New York Times<\/em>\u00a0also published many articles which covered the consequential political turmoil of the disasters. \u00a0For example, the social upheaval of the Haitian civilians towards the United Nations peacekeepers was seen as a way to destabilize the country before the presidential elections in November 28, 2010. \u00a0Another key component of <em>The New York Times<\/em> is the<a title=\"health guide\" href=\"http:\/\/health.nytimes.com\/health\/guides\/disease\/cholera\/overview.html\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0health guide<\/a>\u00a0on the cholera, which explains the causes, symptoms, and historical prevalence of the disease. \u00a0<em>The New York Times<\/em> included both personal stories and factual information on the impacts of cholera in Haiti.<\/p>\n<h2>Photography<\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_1266\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/world\/americas\/2010-haiti-shattered-year.html#30\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1266\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1266\" src=\"http:\/\/web.colby.edu\/contemporary-issues\/files\/2012\/04\/Haiti-NY-Times-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/web.colby.edu\/contemporary-issues\/files\/2012\/04\/Haiti-NY-Times-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/web.colby.edu\/contemporary-issues\/files\/2012\/04\/Haiti-NY-Times.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1266\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">With cholera raging in Haiti, treatment centers sprung up in Port-au-Prince and other areas.
