The freedom of living has opened a gateway to creative freedom, with\u00a0spontaneous\u00a0art and music seeping from the venues built by\u00a0slabbers. Some people live in Slab because of economic\u00a0hardship\u00a0that has left them with no other options to\u00a0survive. However, there are communities of\u00a0people\u00a0who have chosen to call Slab there home, resisting the temptations of modern life to embrace a lifestyle that resembles the last\u00a0frontier. Many of these people\u00a0would\u00a0tell us that the freedom found in Slab\u00a0trumps\u00a0the ease that technology and globalization has\u00a0brought\u00a0to our lives. At Slab you can just be. Through out the existence of Slab City there has been animosity between local law enforcement and the desert residence. In addition, some people who find themselves at Slab are experiencing cases of drug addiction and mental health disorders. The predicaments of these individuals undoubtedly have an affect on the Slab community as a whole.
