Mary Louisa Horton founded the first girls&#8217; school,  Zhencai Girls School, in Hangzhou in 1867. In 1912, the three girls&#8217; schools in Hangzhou, founded respectively by the Southern Presbyterian, Northern Presbyterian, and Northern Baptist missionaries, were combined and named Union (Hongdao) Girls School.
