Robinson wrote a series of articles on the first Chinese Education Mission (1871-1882) when Robinson came to China under the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions in 1929-1937.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Chinese Education Mission (1872-1881) sent 120 boys from China to live with American families in Hartford and study in New England schools, organized by Yung Wing, the first Chinese graduate of Yale. Though the Qing Government recalled the students early after conservative backlash, the returnees went on to build China’s railways, telegraph systems, and diplomatic corps. Decades later, A.G. Robinson arrived in Tientsin in 1929 under the American board and befriended the aging survivors of the mission, most notably M.T. Liang.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Drawing on their photographs and recollections, Robinson published a series in the Peking & Tientsin Sunday Times <\/em>in 1933 called “China’s Pioneers in Western Education.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
