Foster<\/em><\/strong> <strong><em>Class of 1877<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>John Marshall Foster graduated from Colby College in 1877. This marks the beginning of his journey before going to China as a missionary. He was part of an early group of American missionaries who went to South China. His work was not just about religion, it also focused on education and building institutions. After finishing his education and theological training, he traveled to China in the late 1880s and joined the American Baptist South China Mission. He spent most of his life in the <strong>Swatow (Shantou) region<\/strong>, where he worked in: preaching, teaching and training local Christian leaders Over time, he became a senior figure in the mission,<br>known as <strong>Rev.
