The goal for the day<br \/>\nwas to take samples from the various rivers and streams flowing in and out of Great<br \/>\nPond. So with maps in hand and waterproof boots in the trunk, we headed out in<br \/>\ntwo vans towards varying sites around the perimeter of the lake.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-206\" alt=\"IMG_0550\" src=\"http:\/\/web.colby.edu\/ceat\/files\/2013\/01\/IMG_0550-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/web.colby.edu\/ceat\/files\/2013\/01\/IMG_0550-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/web.colby.edu\/ceat\/files\/2013\/01\/IMG_0550-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/web.colby.edu\/ceat\/files\/2013\/01\/IMG_0550-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Our first day was definitely an adventure. When my van got to our first site,<br \/>\nwe were expecting a dam, but couldn\u2019t find one! After consulting the map and<br \/>\nhacking through the underbrush for a while, we determined that we were indeed in<br \/>\nthe right place; there was simply no dam. Then we thought that we had forgotten<br \/>\nsome of our data collection equipment (although we found it later). The process got<br \/>\nsmoother as we went along, and we were able to enjoy a gorgeous day on the<br \/>\nBelgrade Lakes. By the time we got back to campus (and after a quick stop for some<br \/>\nhomemade fudge), we had worked everything out and had a cooler full of water<br \/>\nsamples.
